MTC Ringwood welcomes Ian Ampongan, our newest Brazilian Jui Jitsu instructor. Coach Ian has a long history with our club, and we’re thrilled to have him back for Term 3 and beyond.
Ian holds a brown belt in Brazilian Jui Jitsu and studied under Chris Arnott of Peter De Been Jiujitsu, in Clifton Hill. He has trained in BJJ since 2011, studying both here in Australia as well as in the UK and Japan. He is a regular and consistent competitor on the Bjj circuit, winning medals in many tournaments in Australia and abroad.
In addition to BJJ, Ian holds a fourth-degree Kukkiwon Taekwondo black belt and has won multiple medals in an array of competitions. He has also studied stick and knife fighting under Pekiti Tirsia Kali in the Philippines.
Ian has attained a master’s degree in sports science and a bachelor’s degree in physical education.
Ian takes over from Max Panagiotopoulos, who leaves with our heartfelt thanks for his time at MTC Ringwood.
If you’re interested in learning BJJ, it’s a great time to join our club under Ian’s experienced hand. You can learn more about our BJJ program here, or book your free trial right now!
